What To Expect
Marine Turtles have existed in the world’s oceans for over 100 million years and here in Western Australia 6 out 7 of the world's marine turtles can be found in our waters.
Snorkelers and swimmers have the potential to come across marine turtles in the ocean on the Ningaloo coast all year round.
The Green, Loggerhead and Hawksbill Turtles nest on the beaches surrounding the Ningaloo Reef from November to March.
After 8 to 10 weeks the Turtle hatchlings emerge from their nests in the sand to make a dash for the safety of the ocean.
The Ningaloo coast is considered one of the most important nesting grounds for the Green and Loggerhead Turtles.
Marine Turtles are intertwined with Western Australia’s rich Indigenous history and feature in stories, ceremonies, traditions and are a food source for coastal communities. Indigenous Australians also have a cultural and spiritual connection with these ancient seafaring animals.
The Tour
Latitude 22 Departs Exmouth Marina at 8am and returns at 3pm and Complimentary Transfers are available.
Turtles are some of the most popular creatures to swim with around the world. Ocean Eco Adventures is Ningaloo Reef’s first and only approved eco-friendly Turtle Swimming provider. Enjoy a cruise to remote locations as part of a relaxing day aboard the beautiful custom built 20m vessel Latitude 22. We will be on the search for Turtles, Manta Rays and other marine life. The snorkelling sites are rarely snorkelled and showcase the pristine Ningaloo Reef and it’s residents. Be treated to gourmet food, lots of fun and education about Exmouth and the Reef.
Who can take part
We encourage swimmers of a wide range of ages and abilities to take part in this tour. Or if you don’t feel up to swimming stay on board and enjoy the action from above. Our vessel is well equipped and has the safest and easiest access in and out of the water. We do provide coaching and flotation aids for those less experienced, however as a minimum all passengers must be able to swim and snorkel. Varying weather conditions can affect some people’s ability to take part in the tour and passenger safety and comfort is our number one priority.
How many turtles will you see
Each and every day is different and when working with wild animals we can’t guarantee that there will be Turtles at any one location at any given time. We do however have the ability to operate in many different locations from the Exmouth Gulf to the famous Ningaloo Reef, which allows us the opportunity to find the best conditions and increase the likelihood of interacting with Turtles. Turtles are more abundant in nesting season from November to March. Our qualified in-water guides will give you some top tips on how to have the best chance to safely and successfully interact with these beautiful creatures.
The duration and quality of the interactions is dependant on the conditions, conduct of swimmers and the willingness of each Turtle to be a part of our tour.
In most cases if Turtles are scarce or conditions are not favourable, we will resume the search and try a different location.
What should you bring
We recommend you bring more personal items such as a camera, hat, towel, swimmers, dry change of clothes,
and warm clothes in the cooler months.

Ocean Eco Adventures realises that many of its customers travel significant distances at considerable cost to participate in its tours.
In recognition of this, we offer one complimentary repeat tour* on the next available day.
Seats on repeat tours are allocated on a first in first served basis and as such it may take several days for a place to become available.
If you can’t get a place on a repeat tour in the time you are in the location or if you prefer, we will issue you a repeat tour voucher that is valid for three years from the date of issue*. This voucher only includes a repeat of the tour you participated in and is non-transferable.
*Conditions Apply
- All tours are subject to availability, weather and minimum numbers.
- The repeat voucher is valid for one tour only and is non-transferable.
- If participating in a Microlight flight as part of a tour package the Microlight flight does not include the
‘No Sighting Policy’ as it is not a dedicated animal interaction tour.
- Government fees and charges apply after the first year.
Minor Supervision Policy
An adult must accompany any passenger under the age of 12 at all times, this includes all in-water activities. Children under the age of 12 are not permitted to be left on the vessel unaccompanied, this includes when an in-water activity is taking place. This may mean it is necessary for adults to take turns in the water if a minor wishes to remain on-board.
