Sunset Whale Watch Cruise - Exmouth
Experience Humpback Whales at sunset in the Exmouth Gulf - when the ocean slows and the wildlife comes alive
📍 Exmouth | 🐋 Aug–Oct | ⏱ Sunset Cruise
Ningaloo Reef lies on the migration path of one of the largest humpback whale populations on Earth. Each year, the sheltered waters of Exmouth Gulf become a vital resting and nursery ground for these incredible animals as they travel between Antarctica and their tropical breeding grounds. From August to November, these calm, protected waters come alive with humpback whales — mothers and calves resting, pods socialising, and whales moving slowly through the golden light of late afternoon. It is here, in the stillness of the Gulf, that you may witness breathtaking natural behaviours — breaching, tail slapping, spy hopping, and gentle interactions between whales — all set against one of the most beautiful coastal sunsets in Australia.

How likely are Humpback Whales?
Humpback whale sightings during the migration season are very high, with Exmouth Gulf serving as one of the most important resting and calving areas along their journey.
Between August and November, it is common to encounter multiple pods during a single cruise as whales rest, socialise, and move through the sheltered waters of the Gulf.
While wildlife encounters are never guaranteed, Ocean Eco Adventures operates under a 'No Sighting' policy. If no humpback whales are observed during your tour, you will receive a complimentary return voucher to join us again (subject to terms and conditions).
This ensures every guest has the opportunity to experience these incredible animals in their natural environment.
